Pakistani, Indian DGMOs to meet on December 24

RAWALPINDI: The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan army on Tuesday extended an invitation to his Indian counterpart to have a meeting on December 24 to discuss ways to strengthen the ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC).

Meanwhile, according to Indian media, the Indian DGMO has accepted the invitation extended by the Pakistani DGMO and the meeting will be held at Wahgah.

The move came almost three months after the Prime Ministers of the two countries decided in New York that the DGMOs should meet to find ways to reduce tensions on the LoC.

On September 29, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart agreed on a meeting between the DGMOs when they held talks on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Both sides agreed to task the DGMOs of both the countries to find effective means to restore the ceasefire on the LoC, Indian national security adviser Shivshankar Menon had told reports following the meeting between two prime ministers in New York.

“Both the leaders agreed that the precondition for forward movement in the relationship, which they both desire, is really an improvement of the situation on the LoC,” Menon had said.
