IndiaPakistan summons Indian deputy high commissioner over LoC violation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday expressed its serious concern over the continuous ceasefire violations by Indian border security force (BSF) across the Line of Control (LoC) over the past couple of days.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said that the Indian Deputy High Commissioner was summoned on Monday afternoon to raise the issue of firing by Indian troops which has resulted in the loss of an innocent civilian life in Rawalakot.

On Monday morning, a Pakistani army official said a civilian was killed as a result of “unprovoked Indian shelling” in the Battal, Chirikot and Satwal sectors. “Pakistan troops effectively responded to Indian firing,” the official said.

Pakistan called upon India to uphold the ceasefire over the LoC and reiterated its commitment to the Ceasefire Agreement of 2003‚ which should be respected in letter and spirit.

The statement further said that Pakistan also underlined the need for abiding by and strengthening existing military mechanism to ensure that such violations do not recur again.

“Pakistan is committed to a constructive‚ sustained and result-oriented process of engagement with India and believes that serious efforts need to be made in maintaining a positive atmosphere and avoid negative propaganda,” the statement said.
