Pakistan, India have no option but to live in peace: PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that both Pakistan and India have no option but to live in peace which is in the interests of the two countries.

The premier made these remarks in meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan T. C. A. Raghavan who called on him at the PM House in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The prime minister said that Pakistan believes in friendly relationship with all its neighbours specially India. He said that all issues between Pakistan and India will have to be dealt peacefully and diplomatically through dialogue based on parity.

Sharif said that his government is committed to improving relations with India. He said the normalization process must remain on track and we need to work towards setting aside the baggage of history‚ prevailing mistrust and lack of flexibility.

The Pakistani premier further said that Pakistan and India should institutionalize the mechanism of meetings between national security advisors of the two countries to discuss matters relating to terrorism to allay the concerns of the two sides.

Moreover, the prime minister expressed satisfaction over the calm at Line of Control (LoC) and said that existing mechanism on LOC meetings need to be further strengthened. He said that sincere and constructive measures should be taken to reduce tension on LOC and to ensure that the ceasefire agreement of 2003 remains intact.
