Pakistan, India decide to resume trade across LoC

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India have decided to resume trade across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir after successful round of talks between the officials of the two countries, the Foreign Office spokesperson said on Wednesday.

“Decision has been taken to resume trade across Line of Control,” the spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said while confirming the resumption of trade.

It is expected that the trade will be resumed shortly as Pakistan and India have decided to exchange 75 stranded truck drivers and their vehicles held up on either side.

The trade between two sides of Kashmir was disturbed on January 17 when allegedly the Jammu and Kashmir Police of Indian Occupied Kashmir recovered 114 kg of brown sugar that was smuggled from Pakistan side in a truck through cross LoC trade and the Pakistani driver was taken into custody.

After the arrest of the driver, Pakistan also detained 27 India truck drivers while Indian side held up 48 Pakistani trucks.

The bus service across LoC was also suspended in January which was followed by a number of rounds of talks between the two countries. The bus service was then resumed in last week while both the countries have agreed to resume the trade across the LoC.
