Pakistan, India agree to stop illegal movement, smuggling on border and return prisoners

LAHORE: Pakistan and India on Wednesday agreed to stop illegal movement and smuggling on the border, in addition they agreed to return the prisoners who have completed their sentences.

A meeting was held at Wagah border on the Pakistani side on Wednesday between the Pakistan and Indian border security officials.

The Pakistan delegation was led by DG Rangers Major General Tahir Javed Khan while Indian side was represented by BSF Director General Subhash Jushi.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed matters pertaining to the border and agreed to stop illegal movement and smuggling on the border.

The two sides also agreed in principle on the return of the prisoners who have completed their sentence in both the countries.

On Tuesday, the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two countries met at the Wagah border and showed their commitment to maintain the sanctity and ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) and agreed to re-energize the existing mechanisms.

The consensus was developed to make hotline contact between the two DGMOs more effective and result oriented. It was also decided to inform each other if any innocent civilian inadvertently crosses the LoC‚ in order to ensure his/her early return.

It was also decided that to carry forward the positive spirit of the DGMOs meeting‚ two flag meetings between Brigade Commanders will be held on the LoC in the near future‚ to ensure maintenance of peace and tranquility along the LoC.
