Pakistan, India agree to promote parliamentary level relations

MALE: Pakistan and India have agreed to promote parliamentary level exchanges for better relations and ever lasting peace in the region.

The Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq met with the Indian Speaker Meira Kumar in Male‚ Maldvies on the sidelines of the 7th SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians Conference.

Ayaz Sadiq said that the two neighboring countries have multiple challenges of poverty‚ illiteracy and disease and it is important to fight these challenges together instead of wasting resources in confronting each other.

The Pakistani National Assembly speaker stressed that all channels should remain open to avoid escalation of miss-trust and bitterness on both sides. Parliaments‚ as the real voices of the people‚ are better placed to engage and seek common solutions to common problems.

Moreover, he stressed for exploring possibilities of joint collaboration between the National Assembly and Lok Sabha in Legislative Drafting‚ Rules of Business and other Parliamentary Practices.

Indian Speaker Meira Kumar agreed that the elected representatives have a responsibility to build strong and meaningful relations. She said that negotiations and efforts of both the countries from all levels must be directed towards peace in the region.

The meeting ended with a strong call of peace and friendship between the two neighbouring countries.
