Pakistan, India agree to convert confrontation into cooperation: Aziz

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India have agreed to convert confrontation into cooperation to resolve all outstanding issues and bring peace to the region, the adviser to the prime minister on foreign affairs and national security Sartaj Aziz told newsmen in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held much-anticipated talks with the newly election Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday during his two-day visit to India to attend the inauguration ceremony of India’s new prime minister.

During the meeting between prime ministers of both the neighbouring countries, the two sides had wide ranging talks and discussed all contentious issues, the adviser told newsmen.

The adviser said that the Pakistani premier stressed the need for moving forward in the dialogue process in the light of the Lahore Declaration, and work to resolve all outstanding issues including Kashmir.

Sartaj Aziz said that it was agreed in the meeting that all issues could be resolved through dialogue and foreign secretaries of both the countries will resume their talks to move forward the peace process.

The prime minister’s adviser said that issues including Mumbai attacks and Samjhota Express incidents were discussed in the meeting besides confidence building and enhancing trade between the two countries.

Moreover, he said that both the sides agreed to work together for rooting out the menace of terrorism.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
