Monitoring Desk: As many as 13 persons were killed during Dalit-led protest namely “Bharat Bandh” that ignited fire in entire northern India on Monday.

Nine Northern states are in the grip of violence since morning with no sign of relief to people who are confined in their homes since morning.

According to local northern Indian media outlets, police resorted straight firing on peaceful processions of Dalit, resulting serve reaction from protesters who starting burning private vehicles and shops.

 

Train and bus services are suspended in entire North India and 118 trains were asked to suspend service and were parked in different stations.

“The only link with rest of the country is now by air services”, said a local journalist Geeta Kumar when she was contacted by Dispatch News Desk (DND) News Agency to know the situation of her state.

 

 

It is pertinent to mention that Dalit call for “Bharat Bandh” (close India) on Monday was against a judicial order that dilutes the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, or SC/ST Act.

 

 

According to details, Central government moved to the Supreme Court challenging its 20 March ruling that prevents automatic arrests under the provisions of the 1989 law. The apex court had placed safeguards over arrests made under the law. This move of Modi Sarkar ignited already suppressed Dalits who called for a protest that I snow engulfed by violence due to brutal use of power by authorities of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and even in Rajasthan.

Meanwhile state run news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that situation was still not under control and “Bharat Bandh” resulted wide-spread clashes between protesters and the police and vehicles being torched across several states.

PTI reported that the home ministry was “closely monitoring the situation in the wake of the Bharat Bandh and protests in the country…. The ministry had asked the states to take all preventive measures and maintain public order and ensure the safety of lives of people and property.”

 

 

 

“Dalits are purged like Muslims and Christians under Modi Sarkar. India no-more belongs to anybody except Brahamans. Where to go?”, said Geeta while commenting on the state of human rights in India.

Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
