Modi describes China as priority in India's foreign policy

NEW DELHI: The newly elected Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that China was always a priority in India’s foreign policy and underlined his government’s resolve to utilise the full potential of strategic and cooperative partnership between the two countries.

During a telephonic conversation with his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang on Thursday, the Indian premier said that he was keen to work closely with the Chinese leadership to deal with any outstanding issues in bilateral relations by proceeding from the strategic perspective of our developmental goals and long-term benefits to our peoples.

The Indian prime minister also sought greater engagement between the world’s two most populous nations on trade and regional security.

Modi also extended an invitation to Li to visit India for strengthening bilateral ties.

Li also conveyed Beijing’s desire to establish robust partnership with the new government of India for further development of ties.

The Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi is scheduled to visit to New Delhi early next month while President Xi Jinping is also expected in India later this year.

According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
