RANCHI: A Central Bureau of Investigation (BCI) court on Monday found former chief minister of India’s Bihar state and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief party Lalu Prasad Yadav guilty in a multi-million fodder scam case.

Following the court verdict, Yadav faced immediate disqualification as Lok Sabha member and became ineligible for contesting elections for at least six years.

Apart from Yadav, 44 other accused including former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra, six politicians and four India Administrative Service (IAS) officers were also convicted by a special court in Ranchi in the eastern state of Jharkhand for fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from Chaibasa treasury in the 1990s.

The RJD chief could be jailed for between four and seven years, lawyers present in the court said.

The court will announce Yadav’s sentence on October 3.
