Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, who is currently under house arrest in Delhi, was not allowed to offer Friday prayers. Dispatch News Desk reports.

“The Muslims in Kashmir were barred from offering Friday prayers at Central Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Khankahs, Budgam Imambara and other places. The Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz was not allowed to offer prayers in Delhi while other Hurriyat leaders including Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Aga Syed Al-Moosvi Al-Sufvi, Moulana Abbas Ansari and Mukhtar Ahmad Waza are either under house arrest or lodged in police stations,” said a spokesman of the amalgam in a statement today, strongly condemning, what he said, the continued severest curfew restrictions imposed in Kashmir.

“The government, by imposing continued curfew has usurped the civil and individual rights of the people of Kashmir. There is acute shortage of medicines and other essential commodities in whole Kashmir and it has become impossible for patients to reach hospitals. Almost all the medical shops are closed and people are suffering for want of medicines,” said the spokesman, adding that such “repressive steps” by the government cannot stop people from pursuing their just cause of freedom.
