Indian army will respond to Pakistan’s ceasefire violations: Defence minister

NEW DELHI, India: The Indian defence minister Arun Jaitley said on Saturday that the country’s army will respond to alleged ceasefire violations by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Our Army is prepared to respond to each violation. The country has full faith that they (Army) are effectively protecting both the territory and the national interest,” the Indian media quoted Jaitley as saying in Visakhapatnam, the largest city in the Andhra Pradesh state.

The defence minister also criticized the killing of civilians in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir in Pakistani firing.

“The loss of civilian lives is considered condemnable even in war. During peace, it is even more condemnable.”

The Indian media accused the Pakistan Rangers of killing two civilians and injuring three others in firing on the Indian border security force posts in the RS Pura sector in Jammu district.
