ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday acquitted the former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the Cipher Case.

The reserved judgement was pronounced by a two-member bench of the IHC including Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Gul Hassan Aurangzeb.

Earlier in his remarks during the course of hearing, the IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq said that in his option, the prosecution utterly failed to produce any evidence in the Cipher Case.

Justice Aamer Farooq also questioned that is it justifiable that a Statement of 342 was recorded in the Courtroom at 11:30, and later at 02 O’ Clock, a 77-page verdict follows.

Justice Gul Hassan Aurangzeb remarked that whether Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain had already penned down the judgement in the said Case prior to reaching any logical conclusion based on concrete evidences?

On March 30, 2024, Judge of the Special Court established under the Official Secrets Act Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain had sentenced both the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founding Chairman Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi to 10 years imprisonment in the Cipher Case which pertains to a diplomatic document that the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Charge Sheet alleges was never returned by Imran Khan.

Today, after listening to all the arguments from both sides, the IHC accepted the appeals filed by Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi against their conviction in the Cipher Case, and ordered to release them.
