PakistanIMF,Pakistan talks to continue for next two days

ISLAMABAD: The first round of talks between Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar led Pakistan’s side while Frank Jeffery headed the IMF team came to an end over Pakistan’s request for loan of $5.3 billions.

It should be mentioned here that the visiting mission of the lending institution extended its stay in the country for another two days in an effort to reach consensus on the terms of a bailout package for the country.

During the first round of talks that began on Friday, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar led Pakistan’s side while Frank Jeffery headed the IMF team.

“I haven’t shown any flexibility. I’m trying to use my skills to negotiate a program which is in the best interest of the country.” Dar noted adding the government will not levy more taxes as demanded by the Fund; however, the government agreed to slash power subsidies and increase electricity tariffs.

It should be mentioned here that the IMF seeks the Pakistani government to gradually cause a two-thirds increase in electricity tariffs and slash subsidy.
