ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and Pakistan

By Sanabil Tanweer

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 to be hosted by England and Wales, starting from 30th May is only few days away now.

To make the competition more interesting ICC made two changes in the format of the World Cup – they reduced the size of teams from 14 teams to 10 only, and after 27 years they re-introduced the Round-Robin format

Unlike the old format where teams were divided into two groups of seven, to play against each other, in the Round- Robin format all 10 teams are going to play against each other. This would allow each team to play nine matches, where the resulting top four teams would then qualify for semi finals, eventually leaving the last two to compete against each other to take the title of the Champions and the trophy

The question is – If Pakistan bringing the trophy again?

The Pakistani team, which is in England for a month now had already lost the series against England, as well as the warm up match against Afghanistan.

The match against Bangladesh is called off due to rain and for Pakistan’s team, winning this match is important to build some confidence ahead of facing West Indies on Sunday and later to play against the old rival – India, whose request was deferred by ICC to boycott Pakistan and ban it from playing the tournament due to Pulwama attack.

Despite the pressure, team Pakistan’s morale is high and they are confident about winning and the nation hopes that they do.
