BIRMINGHAM: England beat Australia by 48 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy match at Birmingham on Saturday‚

England scored 269 for six after winning the toss, Ian Bell top-scoring with 91 on his Warwickshire home ground. In reply‚ Australia could score only 221 for the loss of 9 wickets in stipulated over.

This was the first match in a Group A also featuring New Zealand and Sri Lanka, who meet in Cardiff on Sunday.

In Group B, India have already beaten South Africa and the West Indies have defeated Pakistan.



The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals, with the final at Edgbaston on June 23.
