Lahore:  major power breakdown hit the country on Sunday-Monday night was caused by tripping of Tarbela and Mangla power house and linked thermal plant when electricity was tried to restored but back up system were not operated and access load management system tripped entire distribution system to avoid blow up situation in Terbela, claim sources.

All major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Hyderabad, Quetta, Larkana and several others were without electricity as a result of the breakdown. 

   

According to Ministry of Water and Power, fault in Hubco power station affected the national grid that tripped the Tarbela and Mangla power stations. However, officials of MoW&P are hopeful that the situation would improve in next few hours. Secretary MoW&P Rai Sikander told a hurriedly called press conference that tripping of 1200MW-Hubco power plant at 11:45 pm led to the crippling of the system. Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has directed for the probe into the crisis, he said.
