HealthK-Electric empowers Lady Dufferin Hospital under social investment program

KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lady Dufferin Hospital (LDH), Pakistan’s largest women’s hospital, for the provision of subsidized electricity to the organization in an effort to appreciate their contribution in the field of women’s health.

The MoU signing ceremony was held between Mr. Nayyer Hussain, CEO, K-Electric and Dr. Zeryab Setna, senior obstetric gynecologist, LDH.

According to the agreement, KE will supply electricity at subsidized rates to the LDH in honor of their commitment towards providing healthcare to the under privileged. This initiative is a part of KE’s Empowerment Program, which comes under their Social Investment Program (SIP).  The program is aimed at extending vital support, which includes providing electricity free of cost or at subsidized rates, to institutions which are serving the under privileged and needy on humanitarian grounds. KE implemented the SIP in recognition of the noble causes these institutions are pursuing whereby KE will be paying electricity bills of these welfare entities in part or in full.

“As an only electricity provider in Karachi, KE feels a responsible for giving back to the society. That is the idea behind our social investment program – to support organizations that are pursuant to the cause of human welfare, be it in the form of education or health services. Our partnership with Lady Dufferin Hospital is a continued manifestation of this initiative, to appreciate their contribution to provide quality health facilities to the underprivileged. Hence, KE has stepped forward to empower LDH with subsidized electricity so they can take their mission forward and benefit a greater number of people,” saidMr. Nayyer Hussain, CEO, KE.

Speaking at the MoU signing, Dr. Zeryab Setna said, “We appreciate KE’s support to Lady Dufferin Hospital.  This initiative will allow us to build further on our capacity, and provide healthcare to countless others who are unable to receive the vital medical aid needed to survive life threatening illnesses and complications. The LDH serves over 90,000 patients a year providing services at subsidized rates and now we will be able to serve an even greater number thanks to the co-operation of KE. The support from KE will enable us to amplify the impact of our medical services.”

This step reflects KE’s commitment to support entities working on humanitarian grounds. LDH is the 11th partner under the SIP program.KE’s other nine Empowerment ProgramPartners under SIP are: Indus Hospital, Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre, Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust, The Citizens’ Foundation, Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation, ‘Karwan-e-Hayat,’ The Kidney Centre, Behbud Association and Bait ul Sakoon.
