Gwadar Port to be fully operational by 2017

ISLAMABAD: The federal minister for ports and shipping Kamran Michael said on Friday that the Gwadar port will be fully operational by 2017.

Speaking on the floor of the Senate on Friday, the minister said that first phase of the port has been completed and its three berths are currently functional.

The minister for ports and shipping said that 2,281 acres of land will soon be provided to a Chinese company on lease for development of free trade zone in Gwadar which include construction of container yards, warehouses, container freight stations and light industrial units.

Kamran Michael said that the government has approved nine projects for development of Gwadar Port at a cost of $17 million.
