ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The International Day of Peace is being observed on Saturday with the theme “Cultivating a Culture of Peace”.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.
“On International Day of Peace, the government of Pakistan reaffirms its commitment to fostering unity and promoting dialogue for a peaceful future. Together, we strive for a nation built on tolerance, justice, and mutual respect,” read a statement posted on Official X Handle of the government of Pakistan.
“Let’s build a harmonious society, free from violence and division,” the statement added.
Meanwhile in his message on World Peace Day, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan is ready to work with the global community to promote a more peaceful and inclusive world for everyone.
The prime minister said that Pakistan strongly believes in fostering peace and stability in the region through dialogue and it is essential to resolve the longstanding disputes to effectively achieve this end.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the foundation for any lasting resolution in the region hinges solely on achieving a fair and just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute peacefully through an impartial plebiscite and relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
The pirme minister said that we must also not overlook the plight of the innocent people of Palestine, who are courageously facing state of aggression.
For lasting peace in the Middle East, the prime minister said, a peaceful resolution of the dispute according to the UN resolutions and aspirations of the Palestinians is need of the hour.
