ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday strongly condemned the attack on a polio team in Quetta which resulted in the loss of two precious lives.

Earlier in the day, unknown gunmen shot dead two polio lady health workers in Bareech Town near Hazargunj Fruit Market area of Quetta.

Police sources said that the polio lady health workers were going to administer polio drops to children in the area as unidentified armed assailants opened fire at them and fled away from the scene.

In a statement after the firing incident, the prime minister expressed sympathies with the bereaved families, and said that polio teams were rendering a huge national service to save children from the crippling disease.

The prime minister called for a report on the incident from the Balochistan Chief Secretary and the Inspector General of Balochistan Police. He also directed the concerned authorities to make every possible effort for apprehending the culprits involved in the incident.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that attack on these dedicated workers who risked their lives for the nation, was an attack on the Country’s future.

The prime minister also directed the government of Balochistan to provide comprehensive security cover to the polio teams.

Separate, the Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Abdul Qadus Bizenjo also strongly condemned the killing of two female polio workers in Quetta.

The Chief Mister termed the attack as a cowardice act and terrorism.

“An attack on those working to serve the people is an attack on humanity,” he said that that the terrorists have no religion.

Bizenjo directed IG Balochistan to utilize all available resources to apprehend the culprits involved in the attack. He also instructed the police chief to provide maximum security to the polio workers.
