ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government has decided to ban the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in Pakistan under section 11(b) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

While addressing a Press Conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, the Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that a Summary to ban the TLP is being forwarded to the Federal Cabinet on the recommendation of the Punjab government.

The decision has been made after the TLP activists wreaked havoc across the Country for the last three days, and resorting to violent protest over the arrest of the TLP Chief Allama Saad Hussain Rizvi, they martyred five people’s including two policemen, and also injured 340 further people.

The TLP activists also blocked main highways and roads in major Cities, and caused damage to the state and private property.

The interior minister said that the government was ready to table a resolution in the Parliament as per the agreement reached with the TLP but the religio-political party wanted a draft that would have fueled the extremism.

Sheikh Rashid said that the TLP had planned to take over several Foreign Missions in Islamabad. He added that the party put up unreasonable demands and showed Pakistan in a bad light internationally.

The minister said that the TLP protestors also obstructed the way of ambulances carrying oxygen for COVID-19 patients. He asked the TLP activists to surrender and accept their guilt or else face repercussion.
