ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has announced to launch a crackdown against petrol pumps found involved in selling smuggled petrol.
Talking to media representatives in Islamabad on Wednesday, the minister said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the Ministry of Interior to seal all petrol pumps in seven days across Pakistan which are selling smuggled or stolen petrol.
Sheikh Rashid said that owners of such petrol pumps will never be allowed to do petroleum business in the future as well. He said that US$ 7 billion can be saved by eliminating petrol smuggling.
The interior minister said that an extensive awareness campaign against the smuggled petrol will be run on the electronic media.
