President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the eight-member Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is enhancing regional connectivity.
In an interview with Chinese media, the president said that SCO gained achievements in economic development and bringing regional prosperity.
President Mamnoon said that Pakistan is thankful to all member Countries for providing Pakistan with permanent membership of SCO. He said that the organization is not only working to eliminate terrorism at regional level but also at international level.
Mamnoon Hussain will represent Pakistan in the SCO Summit beginning in the Chinese City of Qingdao tomorrow (Saturday), and which will mark a year since Pakistan joined the prestigious organization as a full member.
The president, on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, will hold important bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the region. The meetings will be attended by the Heads of States of SCO member States, representatives of SCO Observer States as well as representatives of International Organizations including UN, ASEAN, IMF and the World Bank.
In a statement, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said that Pakistan shares deep rooted historical and cultural affinities with member States of SCO.
Dr Faisal said that Pakistan’s membership of SCO has been facilitating further deepening and broadening of our multifaceted relations with individual member States and the SCO region at large.
