Government of PakistanPrime minister receives Dawn Leaks Inquiry Committee report

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Inquiry Committee unanimously made its reports related to Dawn Leaks Investigation, and which was forwarded to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday.

In a statement, it was told that the Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan forwarded the Dawn Leaks Inquiry Committee report to the prime minister today.

The report was completed in over six months during which the Committee met six times.

The Inquiry Committee headed by Justice (retd) Amir Raza Khan included the Secretary Establishment Tahir Shahbaz, Ombudsman Punjab Najam Saeed, Director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore Usman Anwar and a representative each of Military Intelligence (IB), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB).

The Committee initially constituted a Sub-Committee which was headed by the Secretary Establishment. The Sub-Committee met 16 times for examination of witnesses and scrutiny of all the record.

The action on the recommendations would be taken after approval by the prime minister.

Earlier on Tuesday, media reports said that the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi and Principal information Officer Rao (PIO) Rao Tehsin Ali Khan were held responsible in Dawn Leaks. However, Fatemi reportedly refused to resign, arguing that he had nothing to do with the Story.

The issue of Dawn Leaks surfaced in October last year after Dawn News’ reporter Cyril Almeida disclosed some highly sensitive information about a high-level security meeting in his Story titled “Act against militants or face international isolation, civilians tell military” published in the newspaper.

Following the Dawn Story, Pervez Rasheed was asked to tender his resignation as the Information Minister over negligence committed on his part while an Inquiry Committee headed by Justice (retd) Aamir Raza was formed to probe the Dawn Leaks.
