ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday will visit the Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project Site, the first mega dam in five decades.

The construction work on Mohmand Dam began in September 2019, and it will be completed by November 2025.

Costing Rs 309.6 billion and being constructed on River Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mohmand District, the multipurpose dam will have a height of 213 meters.

The dam will have a water storage capacity of 1.293 million acre-feet and help generate 800 megawatts of electricity.

In terms of electricity, irrigation, and flood protection, the Country will accrue an annual benefit of Rs 51 billion after the completion of the Mohmand Dam.

During his visit, the prime minister will be briefed by the Chairman WAPDA Muzammil Hussain about the progress on the project.

Separately, Prime Minister Imran Khan will also attend a ceremony in Peshawar today regarding the distribution of low-cost family flats costing Rs 5.09 billion amongst the laborers under the Naya Pakistan Housing Program.

Executed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, 2,056 family flats will be given on propriety rights to the registered workers of the province.

In flats, three percent quota for widows and two percent for disabled persons have been allocated.

The low-cost housing project also has a school comprising 30 classrooms.
