ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday performed the groundbreaking of the Margalla Highway at Shahdara Road near Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad as part of the 1960’s Master Plan of the Federal Capital.

The 33 kilometer-long Margalla Highway passing through the Constitution Avenue will link M-1 with Murree road at Satra Meel.

Under the first phase, the work will be initiated on Bhara Kahu Bypass which will connect the Margalla Highway with Murree Road.

As per the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in collaboration with the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) is constructing the most important Highway of its kind to ensure maximum facilities to the masses.

Besides, a wall will also be built to protect the Margalla Hills National Park.

In his address at the groundbreaking ceremony, the prime minister said that given the increase in the population of the Federal Capital, there is a need to develop more road infrastructure projects in Islamabad.

The prime minister assured that the protection of the environment will be fully taken care of whilst executing such projects. He said that it is the first government that has given serious consideration and priority to deal with the issue of climate change.

Imran Khan said that the Margalla Highway project will not only ensure the protection of Margalla Hills National Park but also promote tourism by ensuring easy access to Galiyat like picturesque sites.
