ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday launched the Electronic Passport (e-Passport) laced with latest biometric chip encompassing several security features.

The electronic passport – which is in accordance with the international standards – will help in the prompt and easy immigration of Pakistani Citizens during their travel.

The counterfeit of the Electronic Passport is impossible because of the use of modern technology.

In his address at the Launching Ceremony of the e-passport in Islamabad, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the Electronic Passport carries various security checks and will facilitate our people especially the overseas Pakistanis at the airports.

The prime minister said that extending facilitation to the Overseas Pakistanis will ultimately benefit the Country. He said that Overseas Pakistanis are over precious asset and because of them there have been record remittances of US$ 31 billion.

The prime minister was confident that the e-passport will also help further promote tourism in Pakistan. He noted that the use of technology not only brings ease in the life of people but also helps check corruption.

In his remarks, the Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said that the validity of passport has been extended from 5 to 10 years to facilitate the Overseas Pakistanis. He said that we have also started a service under which passport is being issued in 24 hours.

Sheikh Rashid said that 88 new NADRA Centers have been established across the Country over the last few years.
