ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr. Arif Alvi has asked the relevant stakeholders to expedite the process of registration of persons with disabilities (PWDs) as well as devise a mechanism to classify various disabilities.

While chairing a follow-up meeting on the registration of differently-abled people (DAPs) in Islamabad on Friday, the president said that it was imperative to streamline and expedite the registration of PWDs to ensure the protection of their rights.

The president said that disability certificates were essential for DAPs enabling them to benefit from social protection schemes of the government like the Ehsaas Program.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSR&C) Dr. Faisal Sultan, the Secretary NHSR&C Aamir Ashraf Khawaja, the Special Secretary at the Ministry of Interior Sher Alam Mehsud, the Chairman NADRA Brigadier (retd) Khalid Latif and other senior officials of the government.

The Ministry of NHSR&C and NADRA briefed the meeting about the progress regarding the registration of PWDs.

The Chairman NADRA Brigadier (retd) Khalid Latif informed the meeting that his organization had registered 80,000 PWDs since January 2021.

Brigadier (retd) Khalid Latif said that NADRA would extend full support to the registration process of DAPs.

President Dr. Arif Alvi asked the Ministries of Human Rights, NHSR&C, and NADRA to facilitate DAPs by providing them disability certificates on regular basis.

The president also advised the concerned stakeholders to coordinate with the provincial governments to identify areas for the registration of PWDs.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
