ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that empowering more than 5.4 million beneficiaries by giving them access to unconditional quarterly support stipend is a sacred responsibility which is being best fulfilled by Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon and her team.
Talking to Marvi Memon who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Saturday, the president admired the marvelous services of the Chairperson BISP in combating poverty in far flung rural areas of Pakistan.
The president also lauded Marvi Memon’s contribution towards grass root networking, women empowerment, gender equality and democratic settlement in Pakistan.
Mamnoon Hussain also congratulated Marvi Marvi on winning British House of Commons Speaker’s Democracy Award, an internationally focused award which aims to celebrate individuals which through their leadership and personal courage have made an outstanding contribution to the development of democratic societies.
In her remarks, Marvi Memon said that BISP is contributing towards maintaining the humanity of the beneficiaries by upholding their rights to life, health, education, equality, work and others.
The Chairperson BISP said that British Speaker’s Democracy Award is an honour for Pakistan, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government, for those who created BISP, BISP beneficiaries and herself.
Marvi thanked the president, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for their firm support for BISP, saying without their support this award could not have been won. She also said that the award has been possible due to the prayers of BISP beneficiaries for the government.
