GILGIT, Pakistan: President Dr Arif Alvi has said that being the president of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, he will try his best to ensure meritocracy in the Country.

While addressing the 9th convocation of the Karakoram International University (KIU) in his capacity as its Chancellor in KIU Main Campus Gilgit on Wednesday, the president stressed on the need for modernizing education in the Country saying contemporary trends in the education system are important for the national progress and development.

Arif Alvi added that the modern education will help the nation to keep up with progressive nations; otherwise we as a nation will be left behind the rest of the world. He said that developed Countries have improved their education system by establishing resourceful institutions and synchronising them with the newest market demands.

The president expressed his optimism that all the graduates will be provided an opportunity to get jobs in the fields for which they are trained, though financial benefit is one of the purposes of education. He said that besides this students should try to understand and resolve the issues of society. He said that students should get the education in the field which help them to resolve the issues of society besides getting economic opportunities.

In addition, the president congratulated the fresh graduates, faculty and administration of KIU and said that convocation is an important milestone in the life of the young graduates. He reminded the graduates of their positive and productive role for the Country. Furthermore, he said that the youth can become the agents of change for a better future.

The president praised the efforts of Karakoram International University in promoting and providing equal opportunities to the youth of Gilgit Baltistan.

In addition to this, KIU has collaborated with Nevtac to promote Eco-tourism and Mining in the area. Currently three campuses are putting their contribution in imparting quality education to the youth.

Hundred of guests including graduates, their parents, faculty and staff were present on the occasion.

His Royal Highnes conveyed his heartfelt acknowledgement to Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu for the participation of Pakistan Air Force contingent comprising JF-17 Block-III fighter jets alongside air and ground crew in the Bahrain International Airshow. Chief of the Air Staff expressed his gratitude for the honour of receiving the Bahrain Medal - First Class. On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
