ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: While paying tribute to the former Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan whose 67th death anniversary is being observed on Tuesday (October 16), President Dr Arif Alvi has said that he was one of the founding fathers of Pakistan, who along with Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, worked diligently for securing a separate homeland for the Muslims of sub-continent.

“We reaffirm our commitment to those ideals and teachings propagated by Quaid-i-Millat during his life,” the president said in his message.

The president said that Liaquat Ali Khan’s contributions are a golden chapter in the history of freedom movement. He said that as the first Prime Minister of Pakistan and most trusted lieutenant of Quaid-i-Azam, Liaquat Ali Khan rendered invaluable services for the newly created state especially for rehabilitation of refugees.

Liaquat Ali Khan died on October 16, 1951

Dr Arif Alvi said that Liaquat Ali Khan took over the reins of government at a very critical time when the Country was hemmed in internal and external challenges but he rose to the occasion and played the role of a redeemer. He was a staunch supporter and follower of democratic norms and worked studiously for laying the foundations of the democratic institutions as well as paved the way for its development,” the president said.

The president said that the nation lost a great leader in a tragic incident on October 16, 1951 but his services before and after the creation of Pakistan will always be remembered.

“We need to strictly adhere to the principles upheld by him and follow the glorious path he charted out for the state of Pakistan. May Allah rest his soul in peace,” the president said.
