KARACHI, Pakistan: President Dr Arif Alvi on Saturday inaugurated the Solar Power Project “Roshni Se Zindagi” in Karachi.

The solar power project “Roshni Se Zindagi”, which has already been kickstarted by Hilton Pharmaceuticals under initiative of corporate social responsibility in two rural areas of Sindh (Baba Bhit Island and Gharo), will be providing solar generated electricity to around 10,000 people throughout Pakistan in coming three years.

In his remarks while inaugurating the solar power project, the president said that Pakistan is the sixth most populous country of the world but unfortunately 25% of our population is still deprived of basic facility of electricity.

The president said that since we have increasingly consumerist society, the solar panel manufacturing should start in Pakistan to provide electricity to the remotest areas. He said that solar energy will also reduce imminent threat of global warming.

While appreciating efforts of Hilton Pharmaceuticals, Dr Arif Alvi said that Pakistan has gone far ahead than other neighbouring countries in producing development projects of philanthropists and charities under corporate social responsibility.

“Karachi city has never faced any financial issue for development related projects due to such philanthropists and volunteers,” He added.

The Chairman of Hilton Pharmaceuticals Muhammad Yasin Malik President Dr Arif Alvi for being chief guest at inaugural ceremony of solar power project and presented memento to the president.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
