KARACHI, Pakistan: President Dr. Arif Alvi has emphasized the need for regional peace through resolving all outstanding issues especially Jammu and Kashmir to allow the Blue Economy to prosper.
While addressing the Inaugural Session of the 9th International Maritime Conference (IMC-21) in Karachi on Saturday, the president said that global peace rather than confrontation should be our future.
The three-day Conference under the theme “Development of Blue Economy under a Security and Sustainable Environment – A Shared Future for Western Indian Ocean Region” has been organized by the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) from February 13-15, 2021.

In his address, the president said that Pakistan whilst ensuring its defense desires to attract the world towards morality based International Cooperation.
The president said that Pakistan is becoming a geo-economic hub with the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
Dr. Arif Alvi said that Pakistan is the shortest route for the Central Asian States and China to import and export their goods through Gwadar.
President Ari Alvi also said that security of the Indian Ocean is essential for mankind in general and especially for the regional Countries. He said that hegemonic designs in any way will deter international cooperation.
Moreover, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the development of the Maritime Sector. He expressed satisfaction that the Pakistan Navy is spearheading the development of the Blue Economy and that two Joint Surveys have also been done in this regard.
