ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr. Arif Alvi has accepted the resignation of the Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon.

Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon had tendered his resignation as the governor on April 11, 2022 after Shahbaz Sharif took over as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, replacing the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, the president has appointed the Speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Syed Amjad Ali Zaidi as the Acting Governor till the new Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan is appointed.

Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon had taken Oath on September 30, 2018 to serve as the 7th Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan; however, he resigned on April 11, 2022.

Along with him, Shah Farman and Imran Ismail also resigned as the Governors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh provinces respectively.
