OKARA, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said that Pakistan was advancing towards development and prosperity as roads and motorways were being set up in the Country.

While addressing the elders in Shergarh town of Okara district, the prime minister said that various developmental projects were underway and very near to their completion stage.

The prime minister said that the people of Pakistan were witnessing developmental work of the incumbent government.

“It is our duty to serve the masses”, the prime minister said adding that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was pursuing the agenda of serving people and the government would continue its work without caring about anti-development elements who were trying to halt the process of Country’s development.

Nawaz Sharif further said that the government was providing cheap and uninterrupted electricity to the industrial sectors of the Country.

Earlier, the prime minister joined the ranks of gladsome farmers to formally inaugurate the wheat harvesting activity in Shergarh. He launched the wheat harvesting campaign by cutting wheat plants with a traditional sickle.

The prime minister was briefed about the percentage of wheat produced by Punjab and facilities being provided to the farmers.

Sharif was informed that Punjab was the largest producer of wheat, accounting for 76 per cent of the wheat produced by the Country. He was told that the Punjab government had fixed wheat production target over 19 million tons for this year.

During his visit, the prime minister will also lay foundation stone of a Rs600 million gas supply scheme to some areas of NA-144 and a Rs630 million overhead bridge in Okara City.

In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
