ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi officially assumed his duties as the next prime minister of the Country on Thursday.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was warmly received by the senior staff of PM House when he arrived at the PM House in Islamabad.
Upon his arrival, aguard of honour was presented to him by a smartly turned out contingent of the armed forces and national nnthem of Pakistan was also played. The prime minister reviewed the Guard of Honour.
The prime minister would be getting a briefing about his official duties and introduced to the other staff before taking up his regular duties.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is the 28th prime minister of the Country and was elected by a majority of 221 votes in the National Assembly following disqualification of Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Earlier on Wednesday, the newly elected prime minister visited Murree to hold consultation with the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding the formation of new Federal Cabinet.
Later talking to media, Abbasi said that the Federal Cabinet members would take oath within two days, and portfolios of the Federal Cabinet members will be allocated after consultations with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) top hierarchy.
