PARIS, France: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday arrived at Palais Brogniart in Paris to attend the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact.

Upon arrival at Palais Brogniart to attend the New Global Financing Pact Summit, the prime minister was received by France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ms. Catherine Colonna.

In the Summit, the prime minister will present Pakistan’s perspective and proposals for reform of International Financial Institutions, climate finance, green infrastructure, attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and solutions related to debt.

The prime minister will also hold meetings with participating leaders including the President of South Africa Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, Prime Minister of China Li Qiang and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

Earlier on the sidelines of the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact being held in Paris, Shahbaz Sharif met the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, and exchanged views on the ongoing programmes and cooperation between Pakistan and IMF.

Recalling their recent telephone conversation on May 27, 2023, the prime minister apprised Ms. Georgieva of Pakistan’s economic outlook.

The prime minister outlined the steps taken by the Government for economic growth and stability. He underscored that all prior actions for 9th Review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) had been completed and the Government of Pakistan was fully committed to fulfilling its obligations as agreed with the IMF.

Shahbaz Sharif expressed the hope that the funds allocated under the IMF’s EFF would be released as soon as possible. He said that it would help strengthen Pakistan’s ongoing efforts towards economic stabilisation, and bring relief to its people.

The IMF managing director shared her institution’s perspective on the ongoing review process.
