ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has demanded that Israel should be held accountable for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Speaking in the National Assembly on Friday, he said that the entire Pakistani nation and Muslim Ummah are aggrieved over the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh. He said that the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh is a blow to peace efforts.

Shahbaz Sharif reiterated that Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations including extra judicial and extraterritorial killings.

The prime minister strongly condemned the atrocities and brutalities committed by Israel against innocent Palestinian people, asserting that Israel has exceeded all bounds of persecution in Palestine.

The prime minister noted there is widespread anger globally, particularly within the Muslim world, in response to Israeli actions against Palestinians. He warned that if justice is not served and Israel is not held accountable, it will further inflame public sentiments and anger.

Moreover, he said that the sacrifices being rendered by the Palestinian people will always be remembered in golden words, emphasizing these will not go waste but will bear fruit.

Shahbaz Sharif noted that a nation which is giving sacrifices for the sake of independence cannot be defeated.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s full support and solidarity with the Palestinian people, Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan will continue to supply humanitarian assistance to them. He said that it has also been decided to take effective steps for the provision of medical treatment to the injured Palestinians. For this purpose, the injured Palestinians will be brought to Pakistan.

The prime minister said the Palestinian medical students will be enrolled in Pakistan’s institutions. He demanded that access to humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people be ensured on humanitarian grounds.

The prime minister emphasized the need for making platform of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) more effective to address the plight of Palestinian people.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
