Government of PakistanFollowers of all religions have equal rights in Pakistan: Nawaz Sharif

KATAS RAJ, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday that followers of all religions had equal rights in Pakistan and they were working hand in hand to defend the country and contribute their share to its peace and prosperity.

While addressing the inauguration ceremony of water filtration plant at Katas Raj Temples’ Complex near Choa Saidanshah in Chakwal District, the prime minister said that Islam and all other religions preached peace and affection and those preaching otherwise were not doing any service to the religion.

The prime minister said that the government was pursuing a policy to establish Pakistan’s identity as a minority-friendly country.

Nawaz Sharif said that he had directed Chairman Evacuee Trust Board to leave no stone unturned in preserving, renovating and expanding holy places of different religions.

The prime minister also planted a sapling in the premises of temple. He also visited different sections of Katas Raj where he was briefed about its historic significance.

The Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yusuf and the Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board Siddiq-ul-Farooq accompanied the prime minister during visit to Katas Raj.

The filtration plant was set up at the temple’s holy Amrat Jal pond, and it would provide clean drinking water to the pilgrims visiting the place.

The Katas Raj Temples’ Complex was one of the holiest sites of Hindus across the world. The government of Pakistan, according to Wikipedia, was considering nominating the temple complex for World Heritage Site status.
