FAISALABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday inaugurated the expansion project of Faisalabad International Airport increasing the number of the facilitation counters and handling capacity of domestic and international passengers.

The prime minister was accompanied by his Adviser on Aviation Affairs Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Adviser on Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan and Minister of State for Power Abid Sher Ali and senior officials of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Costing Rs 1.5 billion, the project has been completed by the CAA, expanding the covered area of the airport from 36,000 square feet to 73,000 square feet.

After completion of the project, the handling capacity of domestic passengers has increased to 200 and 400 international passengers.

Under the project, 12 new facilitation counters had been established for international travelers and four for the domestic ones.

The prime minister will also visit Bhakkar, where he will launch work on a bridge to be constructed in Kallur Kot on River Indus that would connect Bhakkar and Dera Ismail Khan Cities.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will also launch the Prime Minister’s National Health Programme in a public gathering in Bhakkar wherein he would also distribute health cards among the deserving people of the area.

Earlier in an interview with a Private News Channel last night, the prime minister said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) incumbent government has carried out record development projects which has no precedent in the Country’s history.

The prime minister said that the government has the mandate till June 1, 2018 and people of the Country will vote in the next general elections on the basis of performance.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
