ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday called for optimum utilization of available resources and infrastructure for expansion of NAVTTC activities so as to enable larger number of youth benefit from the skill development program, particularly under the Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Program.

Chairing a briefing on National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) at the PM Office in Islamabad, the prime minister also advised the body for further strengthening of its partnership with the private sector so as to fulfill market demand and ensure quality vocational training at various institutes across the Country.

The prime minister appreciated the efforts of NAVTTC in transforming raw talent into a skilled and productive workforce.

The Minister for Education Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman, the Secretary Education Aamir Ashraf Khawaja, the Executive Director NAVTTC Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema and senior officers were present during the meeting.

The Executive Director NAVTTC briefed the prime minister about the role and functions of NVATCC for high standard vocational training and skill development of the youth.

Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema informed the prime minister that as a result of concerted efforts by the Commission, four-fold increase in the number of trainees has been achieved during the year 2017-18. He said that at present approximately 100,000 youth were being trained in various vocations keeping in view market demands and emerging trends.

Zulfiqar Cheema also shared with the prime minister the future plans of NAVTTC in view of new jobs opportunities being created after the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
