ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan has stressed that the United Nations must play its rightful role in addressing the grave situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK).

While talking to President-elect of the 75 Session of the United Nations General Assembly Volkan Bozkir in Islamabad on Monday, the prime minister also urged the United Nations to ensure that Kashmiris exercise their right to self-determination promised to them in the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The prime minister highlighted the dire human rights and humanitarian situation in IIOJK since August 5, 2019 as well as the ongoing gross and systematic violations of human rights of the Kashmiri people and the attempts to change the demographic structure of the Occupied Territory.

Imran Khan apprised the president-elect of the UN general assembly about his government’s initiatives to mitigate and suppress the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 pandemic, focused on saving lives, securing livelihoods, and stimulating the economy.

The prime minister informed that his government deployed a US$ 8 billion stimulus package for the poor and the needy which was the highest social security coverage by any government in the history of Pakistan.

In addition, he highlighted his call for ‘Global Initiative on Debt Relief’ and stressed the need to provide greater fiscal space to the Developing Countries to overcome the deleterious socio-economic impacts of Coronavirus pandemic.

The prime minister also highlighted the high importance he attached to addressing Climate Change, countering Islamophobia, and combatting illicit financial flows from Developing Countries.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
