ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan performed the groundbreaking of Farash Town apartments in Islamabad on Thursday under the Naya Pakistan Housing program.

Later addressing the ceremony, the prime minister said that the project envisaging the construction of 2,000 flats is aimed at providing shelter to the underprivileged segments of the society including workers and labourers.

The prime minister said that he will soon perform groundbreaking of the peri-urban housing society for the farmers.

Imran Khan said that a plan has also been prepared to convert the slums and equip them with modern facilities including that of sanitation and sewerage. He said that the slum dwellers will be given houses on proprietary rights.

The prime minister said that the mortgage facility has been introduced to provide loans to the people on easy installments so that they could construct the houses. He said that negotiations are continuing with the banks to remove any impediments.

In addition, he said that the projects to be executed under the Naya Pakistan Housing Program will also uplift 30 industries allied with the construction sector.

The prime minister expressed satisfaction over increased activity in the construction industry. He pointed out that the cement sale remained at a record level last year while growth has also been witnessed in the tax collection which indicates the business activity has increased in the Country.

Imran Khan further said that we have envisaged the up-gradation of the railway line from Karachi to Peshawar. He said that negotiations are also continuing to take the train service to the Central Asian States to promote regional trade.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
