ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday launched “Naya Pakistan Housing Project”, expressing the confidence that it would bring prosperity in the Country.

In his address at the launching ceremony held in Islamabad, the prime minister said that the target of the government is to ensure provision of five million affordable houses for under-privileged classes during the next five years.

However, he explained that the federal government will serve as a facilitator while construction activity will be undertaken by the private sector.

The prime minister said that the housing scheme will not only help realize the dream of a shelter for the poor but also create employment opportunities. He said that the scheme will also attract local and foreign investment and stimulate about 40 related industries.

5 million houses to be built under Naya Pakistan Housing Project

Imran Khan also announced the formation of a “Naya Pakistan Housing Authority” to serve as one window for all construction related formalities. He said that the authority would be set up in three months and till then a 17-member task force would look after the housing project.

The premier also said that a national financial regulatory body would be set up in two months to remove hurdles in financing of construction of houses. He said that a legal framework would also be prepared to ensure that there are no legal hurdles in the way of implementation of housing project.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that a land bank will be instituted to identify land with the federal government, housing ministry, provincial governments and local bodies.

The prime minister said that in the first phase pilot projects will be launched in seven districts of the Country. He said that a registration process will be initiated in these districts from tomorrow (October 11) with the cooperation of NADRA to gather data for housing needs of the people.

Imran Khan said that the federal government is launching its first project for its employees and registration for the same would begin from tomorrow. He added that the Punjab government will also launch a similar project.

Earlier in the outset, the prime minister asked the nation not to worry about the current economic situation, saying that sometimes nations have to suffer even worse conditions.

The prime minister said that we are trying to reform the institutions, adding that reforms will bear fruits in six month-time.
