ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday launched the Clean Green Pakistan Index Cities Ranking, the Country’s first ever barometer to measure green character and cleanliness of Cities.
The Clean Green Pakistan Index (CGPI) aims at improving overall green and clean outlook of the Pakistani Cities by kicking off competition amongst them on on five pillars; i.e. Plantation, Safe Water, Safe Sanitation, Hygiene & Liquid Waste Management and Solid Waste Management.
In the first phase, 19 Cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be ranked in their facilities to make the Cities clean and green.
In his address at the Launching Ceremony, the prime minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to make Pakistan clean and green with the support of masses.
The prime minister said that every segment of the society including the administration, the elected representatives and the youth should become part of the clean and green initiative to fight environmental degradation and protect the future of the Country.
Imran Khan said that Pakistan is blessed with immense resources including 12 climatic zones, fertile land and natural resources, and we need to value these resources in order to help the Country stand on its own feet. He said that given the immense beauty of the country, it will be made a destination for tourism.
During the Ceremony, Office Bearers of CGPI Implementation Committees from 19 Cities across Pakistan also took oath.
Earlier talking to media in Islamabad, the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam said that the barometer aims at improving overall green and clean outlook of the Pakistani Cities by kicking off competition among them on various indicators.
Malik Amin Aslam said that at the grand launching ceremony, the prime minister would also announce the start of the first phase of six-month competition among 19 Cities of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The advisor said that the CGPI has been rolled out under the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s political manifesto of Clean and Green Pakistan and environmental conservation and sustainability.
