Monitoring Desk: US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan discussed a range of issues including bilateral trade, Afghanistan and Kashmir issue during their meeting at sideline of UNGA engagements.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan also discussed Kashmir issue with Prime Minister of UK Boris Johnson.

While briefing media after their meeting, President Trump said that Pakistan and India should talk and settle Kashmir issue and he (President Trump) was ready for arbitration provided both the parties are ready for such mediation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan met President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York today.

The two leaders reaffirmed their resolve to build a broad-based and mutually-beneficial partnership between Pakistan and the United States.

Prime Minister Khan appreciated President Trump’s continued offers of assistance in mediating the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Describing India’s draconian lockdown in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir as a dire humanitarian crisis with implications for regional security, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of immediate lifting of the curfew and other restrictions and resolving the Kashmir dispute for durable peace and stability in South Asia.

The two leaders also reviewed the evolving regional peace and security scenario. They reiterated their shared interest in a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. Prime Minister Khan hoped for an early resumption of the Afghan peace and reconciliation process while underlining that there was no military solution to the Afghan conflict.

Building on the Prime Minister’s successful visit to Washington in July 2019, the two leaders expressed the resolve to expedite progress in the mutually prioritized areas of trade, investment and energy cooperation.

He received praises from Pakistani media present in the hall and a Pakistani journalist said President Trump that he loves him and he is great leader and the best President for Pakistan.

Meeting with Prime Minister of UK Boris Johnson

Prime Minister Imran Khan also met Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson on the sidelines of 74th Session of the UN General Assembly.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

Prime Minister Imran Khan apprised Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the latest situation in IOJ&K and underlined the need for the international community to play its role in helping address the dire human rights and humanitarian situation and its attendant consequences. Specifically, the Prime Minister underscored the importance for urgent lifting of the curfew and other restrictions, averting any dangers to peace and security, and facilitating peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson conveyed that the UK remained cognizant of the situation and would continue to be engaged. The leaders agreed to remain in close contact.

The two Prime Ministers exchanged views on other regional developments including Afghan peace and reconciliation process. On bilateral relations, both Prime Ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in diverse areas, including political, trade and economic fields.
