TASHKENT, Uzbekistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan has stressed for deepening business and economic relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

While addressing the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum in Tashkent on Thursday, the prime minister was confident that the Pakistan-Uzbekistan bilateral relationship will further grow.

The prime minister also expressed satisfaction over the contracts signed by Pakistani business houses with their Uzbek Counterparts. He hoped his visit will further deepen these business connections.

Alluding to the historic, cultural, and spiritual connections between the two Countries, the prime minister stressed that the Trans-Afghan railway project is of paramount importance for Pakistan and Uzbekistan to improve their trade relationship.

Imran Khan noted that this connectivity project will connect Uzbekistan with Pakistan’s seaports and open new markets for it.

The prime minister further said that Pakistan is keen to see peace and political settlement in Afghanistan to reap the benefits of connectivity. He also called for more frequent flights between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

Earlier Prime Minister Imran Khan along with a high-level delegation reached Uzbekistan on a two-day visit from July 15-16 at the invitation of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He was received by his Uzbek Counterpart Abdulla Aripov.

Prime Minister Imran Khan was accorded a warm welcome upon his arrival at the Tashkent International airport.

Imran Khan laid a floral wreath at the Monument to the Independence and Humanism on the Mustaqillik Maydoni (Independence Square) in Tashkent.

Meanwhile, addressing the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum in Tashkent, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Commerce Razak Dawood said that Pakistan and Uzbekistan will sign a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to bolster their trade and economic relations.

The adviser said that a new era of cooperation between Pakistan and Uzbekistan will start through the Preferential Trade Agreement, banking system, and improvement in customs.

Abdul Razak Dawood said that Pakistani businessmen have come up with a plan for investment in Uzbekistan.
