ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood has said that comprising of 1096 Canal, the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad will be converted into a high level educational institution.

While addressing a Press Conference in Islamabad on Thursday after a meeting in which he briefed Prime Minister Imran Khan about the progress made so far on the proposed re-use plan of Heritage Buildings, Shafqat Mehmood said that the prime minister and governors will not live in government buildings. 

The minister said that the PM House annually costs Rs 47 Crore while an accumulated amount of Rs 115 Crore is spent annually on the PM House and Governor Houses.

Therefore, he added that, it has been decided in the meeting that the Prime Minister’s House will be converted into a high level post graduate educational institution. He said that further construction will also be carried on the land behind the House.

Shafqat Mehmood said that the Governor House in Lahore will be made as museum and art gallery while the park will be opened for the public at the Governor House.

Furthermore, he said that the Governor House Murree will be made a Heritage Unique Hotel and the Punjab House Murree will be made a Tourist Complex.

Shafqat Mehmood said that recently, the Punjab government spent Rs 60 million on the Governor House in Murree.

Likewise, he said that Governor Houses in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also be converted into museums while a suggestion has also been forwarded to convert the Governor House Sindh into a museum as well.
