President, Health Minister also addressed the Conference

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The two-day 1st Annual Health Research Conference began in Islamabad on Monday under the auspices of the Pakistan Health Research Council (PHRC).

While addressing the Conference was organized by the PHRC in Islamabad on Monday, President Dr. Arif Alvi stressed for a paradigm shift in the health sector with a major focus on prevention of diseases.

The president said that focus on the prevention side will help cut down the amount spent on the treatment of diseases. He also called for launching a campaign for creating awareness amongst the masses about different diseases and their prevention.

Dr. Arif Alvi also stressed on promoting research in the field of medicine saying it is important to bring an overall improvement in the health sector and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He said that steps are also required towards addressing the issues of drug addiction and stunted growth of children.

The Federal Minister for National Health Services regulations and Coordination Aamer Mehmood Kiani said that that there is a critical need to enhance the allocation of health sector if we are to provide access to quality health care to all people. He said that unfortunately in the last 70 years health has not been given the attention it deserves.

The minister congratulated the PHRC for promoting the research despite having meager allocations and termed this event as an important landmark in the history of research in the Country.

Aamer Mehmood Kiani also expressed his gratitude to the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi for patronizing the Ministry of health and research in the Country.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Secretary Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination expressed his gratitude for gracing this occasion at the highest level.

250 Original Research Studies to be shared in 1st Annual Health Research Conference

The secretary health said that the Country has enormous potential if the platform is available as to this first Conference call overwhelming response was received from researcher’s community in the Country. He said that the Conference is poised to become a trendsetter for others to emulate and therefore play role in generating the evidence for translating into policies. It was also told that 250 original research studies will be shared in the two-day Conference.

Speaking on occasion, the renowned Infectious Diseases Expert Dr. Faisal Sultan reiterated that to promoting research and making targeted efforts is key to attain our international commitments in the form of SDGs 2030.

Dr. Faisal Sultan expressed his hope as the president’s presence at the Health Research Conference is a great encouragement that will promote research and thus health in our Country.

Punjab Highway Patrol releases annual performance report for 2024 Lahore, Pakistan: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has released annual performance report for 2024 that shows promising working under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar. According to details, in the year 2024, PHP checked 31.4 million people on the highways across Punjab through e-Police Post App and arrested 6,537 proclaimed offenders/judicial fugitives. Punjab Highway Patrol checked 18.8 million vehicles with the help of modern technology and also recovered 3,350 stolen vehicles/motorcycles. Legal action was taken against 869,000 overloaded vehicles for axle load violation. Legal action was taken against more than 12,000 vehicles across Punjab for illegal use of gas cylinders. In view of the convenience of the citizens, last year, PHP issued 148,000 driving licenses - 678 missing children were reunited with their parents. 5,005 temporary and permanent encroachments were removed and traffic flow was improved. More than 112,000 passengers facing difficulties on the roads across Punjab were provided with various types of assistance and guidance. 119,000 citizens were provided with various types of assistance and guidance at Police Khidmat Markazes. 1,093 cases were registered for the use of illegal weapons. 20,925 liters of alcohol, 400 kilograms of hashish, 53 kilograms of opium and 5.5 kilograms of heroin were recovered from drug peddlers.
